چکیده

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Low temperature heat release (LTHR) has been of interest to researchers for its potential mitigate knock in spark ignition (SI) engines and control auto-ignition advanced compression (ACI) engines. Previous studies have identified investigated LTHR both ACI SI before the main high (HTHR) event by appropriately curating in-cylinder thermal state during compression, or case engines, timing discharge late reveal (sometimes referred as pre-spark release). In this work, is demonstrated isolation from HTHR events. Tests were run on motored single-cylinder inlet air temperatures pressures adjusted realise n-heptane iso-octane (2,2,4-trimethylpentane) without entering regime. was observed a lean n-heptane-air mixture at ranging 60°C 100°C 0.9 bar (absolute). For below not detected above measurements could be taken due presence HTHR. No same conditions. Following predictions chemical kinetics modelling CHEMKIN (and previous studies), intake increased 1.1 1.5 bar, which successfully led realisation iso-octane. The effect temperature, pressure, engine speed presence, intensity phasing are presented alongside pressure-temperature trajectories gases explain trends.</div></div>

Chaotic combustion in spark ignition engines

We analyse the combustion process in a spark ignition engine using the experimental data of an internal pressure during the combustion process and show that the system can be driven to chaotic behaviour. Our conclusion is based on the observation of unperiodicity in the time series, suitable stroboscopic maps and a complex structure of a reconstructed strange attractor. This analysis can explai...

Cold start modelling of spark ignition engines

The ability of mean value models to replicate the key characteristics of automotive powertrains has been well established over the past four decades. There has been considerable success in the application of these models to controller design, with improved emissions and performance of the primary benefits. However, these low order models typically must make certain assumptions about the engine—...

Alternative Fuels for Spark Ignition Engines

In order to reduce the atmospheric pollution emitted by automobiles, control devices are being incorporated in the vehicles in many countries. This has resulted in a reduced vehicle mileage to the extent of about fifteen percent. Without the introduction of new technology, any further reduction in emission levels would be expected to extract payment in the form of further fuel economy losses. I...

Air Charge Estimation in Turbocharged Spark Ignition Engines

Turbocharged (TC) spark-ignited (SI) engines are popular as they combine high power output with good fuel economy. Furthermore, their emissions can be successfully reduced using a three way catalyst (TWC) provided that the airfuel ratio is precisely controlled. As the air-fuel ratio depends on the precision of the air charge estimate, this thesis is devoted to the systematic improvement of the ...
